Just received this allegation from one of my friends regarding the May 2013's trip to Mount Bromo:
This is tantamount to saying I'm ripping my beloved clients off. Anyway here's my reply."Hey... Justin I heard something bad about you. Your first Bromo trip charge so expensive and arrange them to stay at lousy hotel, not even Hotel CI. The food you provide is pack rice with 1 chicken and 1 vegi. With expensive charge you didn't teach them how to shoot milkyway"
1. For my first Bromo trip, we stayed in the most expensive and the best hotel, so I assume it's directing at my 2nd trip which was May 2013.
2. The initial plan was to put everyone together in one hotel, let's call it Hotel CI, but due to the very last minute visit of both the President and Vice President of Indonesia, we were forced to stay in different hotels as some of the rooms I've booked were rejected, last minute. So I went through hell to arrange for accommodations and only one hotel was available then, let's call it Hotel Y.
3. Out of the 24 of us, 6 of them stayed in Hotel Y, the only hotel that was available, while the rest put up at Hotel CI, which is a better hotel. The nice people in Hotel Y were able to understand the situation. So, the above allegation implies that all of us were staying in a lousy hotel, is not true. The person who made the above allegations stayed in Hotel CI.
4. Allegation that I provided packed rice with 1 chicken and 1 veggie made me fell off my chair. Knowing that shooting outdoor for 6-10 hours under extreme weather conditions was no easy feat, so I rewarded all photographers by allowing them to order anything they wanted every meals, without restrictions, till a point the hotel ran out of drinks and food.
5. Each time before we headed out for a shoot, I briefed all photographers on what to look out for and the few settings we can use to shoot them, including the milkyway. From the look at their works here and here, I'm sure photographers who were awake during the briefing knew what they were doing. Did I mention most of them were shooting milkyway for the first time?
6. The "expensive charge" was due to the extra workshop that we conduct as part of my tour so everyone, including amateur photographers, are equipped with the basic knowledge and skills to get the most out of the tour. Efforts were also taken to ensure we're always shooting at the right location and at the right time.
